Me and my business both have roots in The South. Having been raised in Auburn, AL, where southern comfort and hospitality are aplenty, food makes up a huge part of my home culture.
So when I came to Utah in 2014, looking for snow to ski and adventures to have, I found myself missing our southern comfort food. So I brought it here in the hopes that you would enjoy it as much as I do.
Missing my home, I decided to bring The South to The West. In college, I worked at a fried chicken joint called Jim Bob’s Chicken Fingers. They have served up their family recipes since 1991, and I proudly model my chicken after theirs.
In City Weekly’s 2019 Best of Utah poll, locals voted Mr. Charlie's 1st place as Utah’s Best New Chicken Item and 2nd place Best New Restaurant. Not bad for being open for less than a year.
Quick success and a growing customer base have brought on a unique set of challenges. In early 2021 I decided to partner with the Willey family of Penny Ann's Cafe to help scale and grow Charlie's so we can meet demand. We plan to open at least one new location this year and two more next year.
Our goal, is to simply bring a piece of my old home to my new one, southern comfort at altitude.
